Background
DDCT was inspired by the Taiji (a/ka Tai Chi Chuan) principles of movement, the training opportunities enabled by DDCT are realized in no existing training or rehabilitation device.
Taiji originated in ancient China where it was developed and practiced as a highly effective martial art for short- and mid-range fighting. In more recent history particularly the slow movement training forms of Taiji have gained attention due to their diverse health benefits which meanwhile have been documented in various studies.
Taiji training-associated health benefits include superior coordination and efficiency of movement, balance, build-up of whole-body integrated strength, increased concentration, and overall improved physical and mental agility of the regular practitioner.
However, the series of movements and postures trained in the slow movement forms, while perhaps appearing simple from the outside, are highly detailed and complex. Therefore, it typically takes both access to a qualified and skillful instructor and several years of regular training before the practitioner can fully understand and manifest the complexities of movement coordination that form the foundation of many of the Taiji health benefits.
DDCT was designed as a novel rehabilitation and training device that captures the most fundamental Taiji principles of movement coordination to give patients and health/fitness-oriented individuals a more direct access to the benefits described above.
